CAIRO: Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, Pakistan Prime Minister, told a Press conference here today [May 9] that Pakistan was making a great socialistic experiment based on “economic improvement and spiritual advancement” which would help to combat Communist penetration in South-East Asia. He said that Pakistan’s financial position was strong but she still needed foreign capital for industrialisation. Of the recent London Commonwealth Conference [he] declared: “I am satisfied with the conclusions of the conference… .”

The Prime Minister said the object of his Middle East tour was to strengthen the ties of friendship between the Muslim-Arab States and Pakistan. He was not aware of any dispute between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

[Meanwhile, according to news reports from Lake Success,] the UN Political Sub-Com­­mit­tee, which is considering the future of the former Italian territories in North Africa, today [May 10] decided against granting im­­mediate independence to Libya. The 16-member group, established by the General Asse­m­bly’s Political Committee, rejected the Iraqi proposal by 10 votes to five with one abstention.
