KARACHI, March 15: The Sindh Education and Literacy Minister, Dr Hamida Khuhro, has asked private companies and multinationals to help public and private schools acquire computers and related equipment so computer education could be imparted to students.

Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony and IT competition at Habib Girls School Karachi on Wednesday, she said she was delighted to see young computer skilled children at the school.

She said the government was making all-out efforts to provide computers to every public school in the province and it was her aim that every child in the province had access to computers and IT education.

“IT education has become immensely important these days and those who don’t know how to operate computers can’t even get the job of a clerk,” she said, adding that, however, the government alone could not fulfil the task of equipping each and every school with computers.

Hamida said without the help of philanthropists and large firms, private companies and multinationals, the task of providing computers at schools was not possible for the government owing to its limited resources. She urged them to play their role in this regard.

Later, she distributed awards and prizes among students who had secured positions in the IT competition.—PPI
