LAHORE: An antiterrorism court on Thursday granted post-arrest bail to six suspects and denied to three others in the Jinnah House attack.

Judge Arshad Javed allowed the bail petitions of Mujahid Ali Shah, Ali Shariq, Ahsan Zaki, Iftikhar Ali, Zainul Abideen and Haider Ali subject to furnishing of surety bonds of Rs100,000 each.

The judge dismissed the bail petitions of Raza Ali, Bilal Wajahat and Khizar Hayat.

Opposing the bail petitions, Deputy Prosecutor Abdul Jabbar Dogar stated that Hayat was involved in injuring then DIG Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi.

He said Wajahat had stolen books and paintings from the Jinnah House during the May 9 riots while Raza had injured a police constable.

He argued that the petitioners/suspects did not deserve bail as the trial proceedings against them were near conclusion.

The judge admitted the prosecution arguments and dismissed the bail petitions.

The judge adjourned the bail petitions of 15 other suspects till Friday (today).

During the current week, Judge Javed granted bail to 23 suspects in the Jinnah House attack.

Sarwar Road police had registered a case against leaders and workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for attacking and vandalising the corps commander residence in Lahore, also known as Jinnah House, during the protests of May 9 last year against the arrest of former PM Imran Khan.

YASMIN: ATC Judge Arshad Javed adjourned bail petitions of PTI Punjab president Dr Yasmin Rashid in two cases of the May 9 riots till May 13. The hearing was put off without any progress due to the lawyers’ strike.
