BAHAWALPUR: An elderly man was strangled allegedly by his son and grandson over a land dispute in village 33-BC near Lal Sohanra, about 35km from here, on Wednesday.

According to police, Chaudhry Abdul Sattar refused to transfer his land in name of his son, Ataullah, and grandson Hammad. Upon it, they strangled him with a clutch wire.

Abbasnagar police have registered a murder case against the accused with no arrest.

RALLY: The Pakistan People’s Party staged a rally at Khatam-i-Nabuwat Chowk to pay homage to Chicago labourers.

Addressing the rally, PPP leaders Malik Imtiaz Channar, Fazal Mahmood Bali and Muhammad Ali Ahsan urged the government and President Asif Ali Zardari to announce more benefits and welfare packages for the working class particularly the labourers working at brick kilns, industries, workshops and hotels.

They also demanded special measures to check child labour.

Meanwhile, local trade union leaders and workers organised a walk to raise a voice for making labour laws more effective.
