The Israeli military has released Palestinian detainee Ali Bassem Hussein from Ktzi’ot Prison in the Negev desert, Al Jazeera reports, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Society.

Israeli forces first arrested 42-year-old Hussein, who is from the city of Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank, in 2002.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society said that Hussein witnessed the torture and abuse of detainees inside the prison, adding that he suffered from severe weight loss as a result of Israeli authorities denying him adequate food.
