DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Regional police officer, Dera, Nasir Mehmood Satti on Tuesday said an action plan had been devised to ensure safety of police, customs and excise and taxation personnel as they continued actions against smuggling and non-custom paid vehicles here.

He stated this while chairing a meeting held at the Range Police Office.

Customs collector Dr Karam Elahi, additional customs collector Halima Qasim, excise and taxation officer Asghar Wazir and district police officer Nasir Mehmood were in attendance.

RPO Satti said a plan had been prepared to ensure the safety of police, customs and excise and taxation officials against possible militant attacks. He said control rooms would be established to maintain a constant liaison among these departments.

He said all personnel performing duties at different check points should use bulletproof jackets and helmets.

RPO Satti also assured the collector customs and excise and taxation officer that the police would extend all possible cooperation to them to prevent smuggling.

ARRESTED: The police arrested two thieves and recovered three stolen motorcycles and cash from their possession, an official said on Tuesday.

A team of Saddar police station traced a theft case and arrested two accused –Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Saqib – who were wanted to the police in six different cases, the official said, adding the police recovered three stolen motorcycles and Rs30,000 cash from them.

Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday arrested two women and recovered 9.65 kilogrammes of hashish from them.

A team of Saddar police station traced the suspected women near Mufti Mehmood Chowk.

COMPLAINTS: Imran Khan, senior investigation officer at the regional office of the federal ombudsman, on Tuesday said top priority was being accorded to addressing citizens’ complaints promptly.

He was talking to reporters after listening to public complaints at Civil Defence Office in Bannu, according to a press release.

He listened to over 17 complaints against federal organisations, including Peshawar Electric Supply Company, Benazir Income Support Programme, Pakistan Baitul Mal and others under the Outreach Complaint Resolution programme of the federal ombudsman.

He issued directives to the officials concerned of those departments to address the complaints within 30 days.

CHILDREN ENROLLED: District education officer Musarat Hussain Baloch on Tuesday said the enrolment campaign was successfully continuing in Dera as 12,819 children had so far been enrolled in government schools.

Talking to reporters, he said of the children enrolled, 390 were dropout enrolments. He vowed to achieve the target of enrolling 20,000 children.
