NON-CRICKETING CHALLENGES: Whenever some international cricket match is organised in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, routine life in most parts of the twin cities gets seriously, badly and routinely affected, causing frustration to a large number of people, if not the entire local population. Roads leading to the match venues experience heavy traffic congestion owing to the closure of certain routes for security and crowd management purposes. Better planning and execution is needed on such occasions.

AN UNREALISTIC DECISION: The awkward step taken by the governments in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces to bring down the prices of roti from Rs20 to Rs16 could not be successful. It never had a chance. Instead of taking unrealistic decisions, the governments should adopt austerity measures and provide relief to the people.

A BAN THAT HURTS: The continuing ban on X (formerly Twitter) in Pakistan is alarming. The future of the information technology (IT) industry in the country is being clouded by the threat of political interference. Moreover, restricting access to online social platforms is an act of limiting individual freedom. Let us cultivate an environment that encourages creativity, entrepreneurship and advancement.

TOXIC APPS: Social media apps have been playing a rather negative role in modern life. People feel stressed, anxious and depressed when using these social media apps, but when they cannot access such platforms, they are bound to feel even more depressed. Furthermore, children are unable to focus on their physical activities and studies. We must learn to use social media carefully and spend minimum time using it. This is the only way not to get addicted as well as controlled by these toxic apps that have negative impact on users’ health.
