KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Monday that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was set to bring its 60 CNG buses on roads after converting them to diesel to improve transport facilities for the people of the metropolis.

“These 60 buses were not operational because of a CNG crisis. We had sent one of the buses to Lahore as a test case to get it converted on diesel,” he said while talking to the media.

He said that the bus had been brought to Karachi after its successful conversion on diesel. “A public-private partnership mechanism is being made to bring these buses on the roads,” he said.

He said that details regarding the fares and routes of the new bus service would be decided later.

He said that the Sindh government was already working on improving the transport facilities for the citizens of Karachi. “Now the KMC has decided to make the available buses functional and these buses will be seen plying on the roads of Karachi soon.”

He said that all institutions were working together against removal of encroachments in the city. He said that the anti-encroachment operation would continue across the city regardless of the jurisdiction of the KMC or cantonment boards.
