LAHORE: The city weather turned pleasant after a heavy rain lashed different areas of the city on Monday, which also caused inundation of streets and roads, besides suspension of electricity in many areas.

The downpour brought respite from the heat, but also created problems for the people.

According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), 19mm rain was reported on Jail Road, 13mm in Gulberg, 27mm at Lakshami Chowk, 24mm on Upper Mall, 11mm in Mughalpura, 16mm in Tajpura, 1mm in Nishter Town, 9mm at Chowk Nakhuda, 24mm at Paani Wala Talab, 17mm in Farrukhabad, 27mm in Gulshan-e-Ravi, 6mm in Iqbal Town, 8mm in Samanabad, 20mm at Qartaba Chowk and 1mm in Johar Town.

The rain also led to flooding in the low-lying areas, inundating streets and underpasses and causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and motorists.

The electricity supply also faced disruptions in many areas due to the downpour as hundreds of feeders tripped.

The electricity supply was suspended in Manawan, Batapur, Sabzazar, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Samanabad, Peer Naseer, Mughalpura, Shalimar, Mustafabad, Baghbanpura, Ferozepur Road, Islampura, Qila Gujjar Singh and Walton.

Wasa Managing Director Ghufran Ahmad directed officials to remain vigilant and arrange power generators to pump out rainwater from roads and underpasses.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued alerts to deputy commissioners across the province, asking them to ensure preparedness given the forecast of heavy rains.

PDMA also sought establishment of control rooms in Rescue 1122 offices in each district. — Staff Reporter

The public was urged to stay indoors, avoid proximity to electricity supply infrastructure, while motorists were advised to drive cautiously during the inclement weather.
