LAHORE: Police on Thursday arrested anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan in a new case after a judicial magistrate discharged him in an FIR of monetary fraud.

Nishtar Town police produced him before the magistrate on expiry of his one-day physical remand and sought his judicial remand. However, Magistrate Kamran Zafar discharged Imran Riaz in the case.

Earlier, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq presented arguments on behalf of Imran Riaz, saying his client was implicated in a bogus case. He said the complainant in the case had been a polling agent for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The lawyer requested the magistrate to discharge the media person from the case.

The case against Imran Riaz, Riaz, who is known for supporting the ‘agenda’ of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, involves charges of criminal breach of trust.

According to the FIR, he is accused of not returning Rs25 million to complainant Asad Arif, who is owner of Al Rehman Real Estate Center.

Sources said police arrested the anchorperson in a new case to frustrate his release.

The police may produce him before a magistrate for remand on Friday (today).
