Pakistan spikers claim silver

ISLAMABAD, March 12: Pakistan claimed silver medal as they defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 in their last match to finish as runners-up in the Asian (central zone) volleyball championship in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo on Sunday.

Pakistan defeated the hosts 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20 on the last day of the tournament, according to details available here.

In earlier matches, Pakistan had defeated Maldives and India while lost to Kazakhstan, which emerged as winner of the championship.

Four players of Pakistan were named as best players of the tournament in their respective categories — Zaheer Abbas (best spiker), Mohammad Zaman (best setter), Zafar Iqbal Kuriya (best blocker) and Tariq Wasim (best libero).—APP
