TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 3: Five officials and a contractor of the Gojra Tehsil Municipal Administration have been found guilty of embezzling Rs200,000 through a fake bill.

A source told this correspondent on Sunday that when tehsil Nazim had assumed the charge, the officials got signed a payment order from him against the laying of earth in a newly-constructed water works at Dijkot Road. But, work was actually never carried out.

The Naib Nazim of union council No 24, Dr Muhammad Afzal, brought the matter into the notice of tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Khalid Javed. He constituted a four-member inquiry committee who had recorded the statements of officials for several weeks.

The inquiry committee found contractor Yaser Karim, former sub-engineer Abdul Rauf, SDO Dildar Ahmad, sub-engineer Ebad Ali, TO (finance) Abdul Rehman and resident audit officer Khalid Hanif guilty of charges. TMO Raja Muhammad Ashraf was declared as innocent.
