Reconstruction of bridge demanded

SWABI, Feb 3: Residents of two union councils of Yar Hussain threatened on Sunday to stage a hunger-strike if construction of the collapsed bridge of Yar Hussain did not start within a week.

The bridge had collapsed during the monsoon, and since then the residents of Yar Hussain and its suburbs had remained cut off from tehsil Lahore. If any one wanted to reach tehsil Jehangira or Islamabad he had to adopt a long route via Swabi.

The NWFP governor, who visited Gadoon Estate on Dec 5, last year, had announced immediate construction of the bridge but no step had been taken so far.

The notables, and representatives of the local bodies held a meeting and took a decision to meet the district coordination officer on Monday and apprise him of the prevailing situation in the area.

They maintained that if immediate action was not taken, they would go on hunger-strike which would be observed at the Kernal Sher Chowk, and the Swabi-Mardan road would be blocked for traffic as a protest.
