The Turkish foreign ministry has warned that the bombardment on Gaza could escalate after Iran’s attack last night in retaliation for an Israeli attack on its embassy in Damascus earlier this month, Al Jazeera reports.

“Today, we are clearly communicating our messages to Iranian leaders and Western countries that have with influence over Israel, calling for a halt to the escalation,” the ministry said.

“We will continue to work to prevent a process that will irreversibly undermine our region’s stability and exacerbate global conflicts.”

The ministry added that all developments are being closely monitored

Earlier, a Turkish source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Reuters news agency that Iran informed Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about its planned operation ahead of the attack.
