HYDERABAD, March 11: Ten people were injured when supporters of two rival candidates clashed during by-elections for the of nazim of UC Hatri. The seat had fallen vacant after election of Khawind Bux Jahejo as nazim of the Hyderabad (rural) taluka.

The clash followed allegations and counter-allegations of rigging at a polling station for men in the government primary school, Hatri.

The contest was between government-backed Karim Bux Jahejo and PPP-backed Saleem Jahejo, a close relative of Taluka Nazim Khawind Bux Jahejo.

Sixteen polling stations were set up in the UC for facilitation of around 14,000 voters.

The supporters of the two rival candidates remained present outside polling stations.

Polling at other polling stations remained by and large peaceful.

There was a moderate turnout of voters.

The votes were being counted when the report was filed.

DADU: By-elections for the seat of nazim, UC Talti were held on Saturday.

ADP candidate Dr Mohammad Ali Rahpoto and Sindh Dost Panel candidate Noor Nabi Halepoto were in the field.

No untoward incident was reported from any polling stations.

Jamshoro District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar, DPO Fareed Jan Sarhandi and the DCO visited the polling stations.

Heavy contingents of police were deployed at polling stations.

KHAIRPUR: By-elections for the seat of nazim in Pir Jo Goth and naib nazim in Setharja were held here on Saturday.

In UC Setharja, Abdullah Lund, Zaman Kubar, Nizamuddin and Subhan Kubar contested the election for the seat of UC naib nazim.

According to unofficial results, ADP candidate Abdullah Lund was elected as naib nazim for UC Setharja.

Qadeer Memon of the Khairpur Dost Panel was elected nazim for UC Pir Jo Goth.

The elections were held peacefully in both the UCs and no untoward incident was reported.
