United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has said that pregnant women and new mothers are living with unimaginable stress in Gaza, adding that “there is no such thing as a healthy pregnancy in Gaza anymore”.

“They face the fear of death not only from airstrikes but from pregnancy or birth complications as life-saving maternal services have all but collapsed,” the organisation said in a post on their Instagram account.

It said that six months into the bombardment, women were also facing famine.

“Pregnant women need a ceasefire now and unfettered access for aid so they can receive the food, health care, safety and security that they urgently need,” it said.

“The aid workers who are risking their lives to help them also need to have their safety guaranteed,” it added.
