TOBA TEK SINGH, March 10: Six members of a family were killed over a simmering farmland dispute at Chak 314-GB, about 15 kilometres from here, on Friday.

Reports said Noor Ahmad had for the last one year or so been demanding transfer of five acres of farmland in his name from his father, who was allegedly denying him his share. He transferred Noor’s five acres in the names of his other two sons.

Noor left his father’s house a year ago and was residing in another village, Chak 407-JB, with his in-laws. On Thursday night, he came to his father and again demanded his share over which they exchanged harsh words.

To exact revenge, Noor shot dead his father Nawab Ali and brother Ghafran Ahmad when they were irrigating farmland at 3:30am. Then he returned to the village and attacked children and wife of his another brother, Muhammad Akram. He shot dead Akram’s two sons — Imran, 12, and Ali Raza, 5, — and daughters — Naveeda, 9, and Farzana, 7.

When their mother Razia came to rescue her children, the enraged relative also attacked her and injured her seriously. She was admitted to the DHQ hospital in critical condition.

The bodies were handed over to the family after postmortem from Chuttiana rural health centre.

BYPOLLS: Byelection to two vacant seats of nazims of union councils will be held here on Saturday (today).

The authorities concerned have made all arrangements to hold peaceful polling.

Both District Nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar and former nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq are hopeful of victory of their candidates.

A tough contest will be between Mian Farrukh Iqbal advocate (of the Chaudhry Sattar group) and Chaudhry Nadeem Ahmad, who is cousin of former district nazim, in UC No 33.

This slot was vacated by Mian Javed Iqbal, a younger brother of Chaudhry Ashfaq.

UC 76 (Kamalia) nazim slot was vacated by Chaudhry Mahmoodul Hassan Jat, who was elected the Kamalia tehsil nazim. Here a contest will be among Sardar Akram Dogar, (Sattar and MNA Riaz Fatyana’s joint group), Haji Muhammad Altaf (Chaudhry Ashfaq and PPP leader Khalid Kharal’s joint group) and Rai Nadeemullah, who is trying his luck as an independent candidate.
