LAHORE: After the success of its initial experiment, Pakistan Railways (PR) is planning to introduce premium lounge dining cars in more trains to improve the travelling experience, according to its chief executive officer.

While speaking to passengers at an open e-court at PR’s headquarters on Thursday, Amir Ali Baloch said the passengers “widely admired” the service which will now be expanded to other trains starting from Tezgam Express and Hazara Express in the near future.

In January, PR launched its “Restaurant on Wheels” project for passengers travelling through the Karachi-Multan Bahauddin Zakria Express.

The premium dining car, with 40 food items on the menu, including barbecue and pizza, had a capacity for 45 passengers to dine at one time.

The air-conditioned carriage is also equipped with ovens (tandoors), microwave and other facilities.

While responding to passengers’ queries, Mr Baloch said railways have been striving to improve passenger and freight-related services to increase revenue.
