KARACHI: A young motorcyclist suffered an injury from a stray kite string in Azizabad on Wednesday, police said.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that Awais, 20, was riding a motorbike when the string cut his throat in Mohammadi Colony. He was taken to a hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger, he added.

This was the third such incident in the city as earlier, a man and a child were injured when kite strings slit their throats in different parts of the metropolis.

Crackdown

Taking notice of such incidents and the death of a man in Punjab, the provincial government has decided to launch a crackdown on kite sellers and manufacturers.

Karachi police chief Khadim Hussain Rind has directed the police to take action against selling and manufacturing of kites and strings in their respective areas.

The SSP-Central said that the police launched a crackdown on kite-flying as well as manufacturing of kites and strings.

He said several raids had been conducted in parts of district Central in which the police seized kites and strings and set them on fire.
