LARKANA: The transgender members of the Larkana Municipal Corporation on Monday complained about police attitude towards members of the marginalised community and lamented that they were denied basic human rights in PPP’s hometown.

A delegation of transgender members led by Simrin and Pirya met Larkana Mayor Anwar Ali Nawaz Luhar on Monday and urged rulers to hire transgender persons having CNICs for government services in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and other big cities.

They expressed concern over poor law and order conditions and complained about police attitude towards them the community.

They pointed out that transgender persons were denied recruitment even under specified quotas. They were neglected in the financial assistance extended to marginalised persons through the BISP as well, they said.

“We face huge problems while getting a CNIC which should be addressed preferably along with addressing other day today’s issues,” they said.

Simrin and Pirya said the problems they confronted were old and demanded the attention of people at the helm of affairs.

Larkana mayor formed a committee and tasked it with making recommendations so that their genuine issues could be resolved.

He assured the delegation of solving their problems in the light of the committee’s recommendations. “We will put in efforts to remove obstacles the transgender persons confront while visiting the NADRA office to get CNICs,” he said.
