LAHORE: USAID Mission Director to Pakistan Kate Somvongsiri, and other officials from the United States government, handed over a state-of-the-art cyber security system to the management of Power Information Technology Company (PITC), a subsidiary of the ministry of energy (power division).

The USAID-provided cyber security infrastructure, valued at over $1 million, will significantly enhance PITC’s ability to safeguard the billing systems of all distribution companies in Pakistan against cyber threats.

Through comprehensive on-the-job training initiatives, USAID also helped PITC staff enhance their skills to manage cybersecurity incidents, ensuring greater resilience and security.

At the launch, USAID Mission Director Somvongsiri emphasized the significance of cybersecurity systems for Pakistan’s energy sector.

“This is a pivotal moment in our collective journey towards establishing a more secure and resilient power sector in Pakistan. The United States looks forward to advancing our cooperation and continuing to partner with Pakistan to build a clean, efficient, and reliable energy sector that will lay a strong foundation for sustainable and inclusive growth,” noted Ms Somvongsiri.

In the last 10 years, the US government has introduced several new technologies in Pakistan, such as smart meters, new software and tools, and job trainings.

These technologies and other US government programmes are helping Pakistani institutions provide power more efficiently and effectively to millions of Pakistanis.
