KARACHI: The ruling Pakistan Peoples Party in Sindh is unhappy with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led federal government for not posting an office of its choice as the new inspector general of police, it emerged on Wednesday.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar accused the federal government of violating a power-sharing agreement between the PPP and PML-N by delaying the appointment of a new IGP.

Mr Lanjar said in a statement that the Sindh government had proposed a senior officer for the post of IGP to the federal government on March 4 and despite passing two weeks there was still no word about the appointment of a new police chief.

“An unnecessary delay in the appointment of a new IGP is undermining the provincial government’s efforts for improving law and order in the province,” he said.

“The delay is also a violation of the agreement between coalition parties,” he said.

In August 2023, the caretaker federal government had removed then police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon and posted incumbent IGP Riffat Mukhtar.

Another reshuffle in police, bureaucracy

In another major reshuffle, the provincial government transferred four provincial secretaries with immediate effect.

According to the notifications, Shakeel Ahmed Mangnejo, an officer of PAS (BS-21) presently posted as the chairman of the planning and development board was transferred and posted as the chairman of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team against an existing vacancy.

Forest and Wildlife Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah was transferred and posted as the chairman of the planning and development board. Cooperatives secretary Badar Jamil Mandhro was posted as forest and wildlife secretary.

Khalid Mehmood Shaikh was transferred and posted as food secretary, replacing Nasir Abass Soomro.

Meanwhile, DIG Irfan Ali Baloch, presently working as DIG-Traffic, Licensing and Training Sindh, was transferred and posted as DIG-West, Karachi, replacing retired Captain Asim Khan.

DIG-CIA Ahmed Nawaz was transferred and posted as the new DIG-Traffic, whereas DIG Iqbal Dara posted as DIG-Traffic, Licensing and Training Sindh.

Javed Jiskani was transferred and posted as DIG-Mirpurkhas Range, replacing Tanveer Alam Odho.
