LAHORE: Three children were killed when the wooden roof of their dilapidated house collapsed in Lytton Road area on Saturday.
Police said the children were living with their family in a single-storey house in Qureshi Mohallah near Lytton Road. It said the roof of the house was supported by a wooden beam which caved in.
Police said the children were trapped under the debris. A Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and carefully removed the rubble and pulled out two girls and a boy.
The rescuers shifted two of the injured to the Mayo Hospital and the third to the Services Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
They were identified as Kainat Umer (11), Bisma Umer (9) and Muhammad Husnain Umer (7).
Police shifted the bodies to the morgue to complete legal formalities.
A rescuer told Dawn the wooden roof of the house was in poor condition.
Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider took notice of the incident and announced to help the family. She said the tragedy struck the family after the minors returned from their school while their mother went out to buy bread for them from a nearby tandoor.
