MANY areas in Karachi remain seriously deprived of clean, potable tap water. Metroville III in Gulzar-i-Hijri is one such area. It has been over a month that dirty water is being supplied to the entire area by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).

The aresidents have lodged a number of complaints; from the area councillor to various tiers of the KWSC administra-tion, but the problem has persisted, with absolutely no end in sight.

People are forced to buy water tankers that cost anywhere between Rs3,000 and Rs4,000 per tanker. That is a fortune, really. Those who work at union councils, KWSC and other administrative autho- rities in Karachi have clearly failed to do their job.

With Ramazan having begun, the area residents are seriously worried. It will be extremely difficult for them to concentrate on fasting, preparation of Sehri and Iftari, and offering Taraweeh while having to put up with a problem that is constantly agitating their minds all through the day.

The relevant authorities should resolve the matter and resume the supply of potable water to the area immediately.
