Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik has said the government has devised two separate strategies for agricultural production in the country.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said, “The prime minister has formed two separate strategies for the country — one for the urban areas and the other for the rural.”

Explaining the plan of action for rural actions, he noted there were three things needed for development there — soil, seeds and water. “If the farmer gets these three things, then there would be what you call silent revolution or agricultural revolution.”

It has been decided that why not give these subsidies directly to the farmer, ensuring the availability of soil to them at a lower price.

Highlighting that there were now modern seeds with increased harvest rates, Malik put forward the idea of using those to increase production amounts in the country.

Noting that the steps above also needed enough supply of water, for which tubewells are used which in turn is difficult for farmers due to high electricity rates, the minister said it was further decided to employ solar tubewells.
