French President Emmanuel Macron and members of his cabinet have condemned a group of pro-Palestinian student demonstrators at Paris’ Sciences Po university for allegedly insulting their Jewish peer, Al Jazeera reports citing several media reports.

The criticism came a day after the Union of Jewish Students in France (UEJF) said the pro-Palestinian group prevented one of its members from entering a lecture hall, shouting, “Don’t let her in, she’s a Zionist.”

Macron told his cabinet that the remarks were “unspeakable and perfectly intolerable”, according to France’s Le Monde newspaper, while Aurore Berge, his minister for gender equality, described the incident as “anti-Semitism”.

The demonstrators, however, told the AFP news agency the French president had been given “unverified information” and that the Jewish student was barred because she had “previously intimidated pro-Palestinian students”.
