KARACHI: The city chapter of the Jamaat-i-Islami staged a rally on Sunday to express solidarity with the people of Palestine.

A number of JI workers and supporters gathered on the Numaish traffic intersection and marched on M.A. Jinnah Road. They were carrying placards and banners and chanted slogans against Israel and its supporters.

The marchers demanded that the rulers of Muslim countries provide military, political and financial assistance to Palestinians.

Addressing the protesters, JI-Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that his party was committed to the cause of Palestine.

He said that Israel was defeated by Hamas several months ago, but “it is only the United States and unfortunately leaders of the Muslim world that have been enabling the Zionist regime to continue the massacre of innocent Gazans”.

He urged the civil and military leaderships to play their due role as Pakistan did in the past against Israel.

“The JI will not let the government of Pakistan to support Israel by its criminal silence and paralysis,” he added.

JI leader Dr Osama Razai, MPA Farooq Farhan, Al-Quds Foundation president Sabir Abu Maryum, labour leader Khalid Khan and others also spoke.
