KARACHI, March 7: Accusing the government of committing atrocities and violating human rights in the Balochistan province, Baloch leaders have appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto action against the “disappearance” of political activists including doctors and writers.

They also urged the international organizations of human rights to take notice of unprecedented atrocities of the rulers and press them to stop the killing of innocent Baloch people in the province.

Talking to journalists at a camp of family members of Dr Hanif Sharif Baloch, in front of the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, leaders of the National Workers Party Mr Yusuf Mustikhan and Usman Baloch termed the government’s action “state terrorism.”

They said there was no rule of law in Balochistan and the Baloch people were being treated in the same way as the military rulers in Latin America had once treated the peoples of Brazil and Argentina.

According to them, the Baloch people were being punished for raising their voice for their legitimate rights which also included the right of self-governance.

Also present on the occasion was the central leader of Balochistan National Party (Mengal), Mir Khurshid Ahmed Jamaldini, from Dalbandin who had come to Karachi to express solidarity of his party with the family members of Dr Hanif Baloch. He claimed that more than 20 people had been picked-up by government security agencies from Dalbadin. They included Kamran Jamaldini and Abdul Aziz, and were unaware of their whereabouts about these people.

He urged the world community and international organizations to take notice of atrocities being committed by the rulers of Islamabad in Balochistan.

March 7 was the fourth day of the hunger-strike by the family members of Baloch story-writer Dr Hanif Baloch who was allegedly kidnapped by a government security agency from Turbat on Nov 18 last, according to family members.
