Israel’s foreign minister has slammed UN chief Antonio Guterres, saying that he “brought the organisation to the lowest level”, Al Jazeera reports.

His comments come after Israel alleged that the UN is trying to “keep quiet” over a report on sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas, an allegation denied by the Palestinian group.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz had announced on Monday that he called Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, back for consultations regarding, what he said, “the attempt to keep quiet over the serious report on the mass rapes committed by Hamas and its helpers on October 7″.

Katz claimed on X that Guterres “ignores terrible crimes against humanity committed against Jews and Israelis and constantly engages in attempts to discredit Israel and harm its right to self-defence”.

“We will do everything to prevent him and his friends from forgetting the report and avoiding the required decisions.”
