The elections for the role of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly speaker are under way.

Newly elected speaker Babar Salim Swati initiated the procedure. MPA Suraiya Bibi from Chitral is the PTI’s nominee for the post.

According to a Dawn report, the party leadership recommended her name as desired by party chairman Imran Khan.

If elected, she would become the KP assembly’s second woman deputy speaker. The PTI’s Dr Mehar Taj Roghani was the first ever woman to take up the post in 2015.
