LRC chairman resigns

LAHORE: In a surprising development, Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, the chairman of the Lahore Race Club (LRC), resigned here on Sunday.

After remaining LRC chief for over three years, Makhdum, who is a former governor of Punjab, tendered the resignation during the Sunday races, giving no reason for taking the step.

However, it is believed in political circles that Makhdum — being a seasoned politician from Rahim Yar khan — is likely to be offered an important position in the new government set-up.

The LRC stewards, soon after Makhdum’s resignation, held an emergent meeting to elect senior steward Mohammad Kaleem Khan as the new chairman.

The meeting paid rich tributes to the outgoing chairman eulogizing his meritorious services for equine sports and horse-breeding industry.
