LAHORE, March 4: The Tourism Development Corporation Punjab is organizing the second Cholistan Jeep Rally to start from Derawar Fort on March 12.

However, the side events will begin on March 10.

This was announced by Punjab tourism minister Mian Aslam Iqbal who was accompanied by TDCP Managing-Director Irfan Ali at a news conference here on Saturday.

The minister said that 32 vehicles had so far been registered, and hoped that some 70 vehicles would participate in the rally.

He said the TDCP would award Rs100,000, Rs75,000 and Rs50,000 cash prizes to the top three position-holders of the rally, respectively.

Mr Iqbal said the TDCP would also organize a camel rally for locals on March 11. The camel rally winners would also be awarded Rs10,000, Rs8,000 and Rs5,000 cash prizes, respectively.

He said this event would help promote the historical significance and cultural beauty of Southern Punjab. He hoped the event would lure local as well as foreign tourists to the area, which would ultimately help develop better tourism infrastructure there. — Correspondent
