FAISALABAD, March 4: The Madina Town Municipal Administration staff have threatened to stage a demonstration, block traffic and suspend the sanitary work if a case is not registered against the people who had attacked town employees and snatched their valuables.

Work in the Madina Town remained suspended on the second day on Saturday due to strike. Visitors of over 40 city union councils faced serious hardships in resolving their petty issues. Villagers visiting from town’s far-flung areas were also seen returning disappointed.

Carrying banners and placards, employees took out a rally and held a demonstration in front of the Town Complex..

Protesters also demanded immediate registration of the case against owners and the management of an under-construction plaza, who had tortured employees, snatched their belongings and threatened them with dire consequences. They also cautioned to suspend lifting of the garbage from city localities in protest against the police attitude.

A town administration team, headed by tehsil officer (planning and coordination) Khalid Masood, had inspected the plaza site on Jaranwala Road and asked its management to stop the construction work for not fulfilling codal requirements.

Project director Zargham Khan along with 30 armed men had reportedly intercepted town officials and started beating them with sticks and butts of guns. They also threatened to shoot if any employee tried to move from the site. Attackers had also snatched equipment from employees and also hijacked the official vehicle.

The application for the registration of case against attackers was moved through building inspector Pervaiz Bari, but no action has so far been taken.

TO Khalid Masood said that plaza owners had been given notices for the site plan approval and implementing building rules and regulations, but they did not pay any heed. He said the plaza management had also refused to get approval of the map and site plan from the town.

Project manager Zargham Khan said that a formal application had been filed to police for the registration of a case against town employees.

Peoples Colony police confirmed they had received applications from town officials and the plaza management, but no case had been registered. — Staff Correspondent
