KARACHI: Three women suffered burns when an illegal ‘suction pump’ to increase pressure of cooking gas exploded in their home in Orangi Town, police and rescuers said on Friday.

They identified the wounded as Hina Arif, 38, Sonia Haider, 25, and Aneesa Naseer, 20. They were shifted to the Burns Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.

Mominabad SHO Ansar Butt said that initially it was considered as a gas cylinder blast. However, a thorough examination of the place disclosed that a suction device installed illegally to increase gas pressure exploded, sparking a fire, he added.
