CONTAMINATED WATER

CONTAMINATED WATER: The Metroville III area is being supplied sewage-mixed water for the last few weeks. The residents have lodged complaints to the local union council (UC) office. Besides, they also held meetings with the UC chairman, and submitted written complaints to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), but there has been no positive movement. This is a busy city area, not a remote region, and yet the apathy is continuing. All respon- sible political affiliates who are asso- ciated with the UC, KWSB and other administrative authorities have failed to provide a basic necessity to the people. They are too busy celebrating or mourning the election results, it seems.

FLOOD AFFECTEES: Earlier this month, floods affected several areas of Turbat, such as Sami, Nasirabad, Dasht and Tump. They displaced many people, and caused damage to their crops, houses and other belongings. In Sami village, nine people lost their lives due to floods. People do not have access to basic necessities, such as water and electricity. The people living in this area are dealing with numerous challenges. The affected people need attention. The government should take immediate and effective measures to provide food, drinking water and shelter to these people.

GAS CRISIS: The ongoing gas loadshedding in Karachi’s Mehmoodabad area has been causing severe disruption in the daily lives of the residents who are never sure how to plan their day. From cooking meals to taking a shower, everything has to be planned hours in advance, and even then the plan fails because of the erratic supply of natural gas to the area. Besides, businesses relying on gas-powered equipment are all but commercially dead. The authorities concerned should take immediate action to address the issue and to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of gas to Mehmoodabad and adjoining localities.
