ISLAMABAD, March 2: President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday condemned the Karachi terrorist attack and sent messages of condolence to the US President over the death of an American diplomat in the incident.

In a message to US President George W. Bush, President Musharraf said the Pakistani nation offered its deep sorrow and sympathy to the government and people of the United States.

“We express our profound condolences to the family of David Foy and all the innocent victims of this despicable act. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult moment,” he said.

The president said that the authorities were investigating the incident and those responsible would be brought to justice.

“This senseless act will not deter our strong resolve to pursue the relentless fight against the evil of terrorism. We all must continue to work together to eliminate this threat,” he added.

In a separate message to the US President, Prime Minister Aziz offered deepest condolences over the incident and said the government and people of Pakistan mourn together with the American people over the shared loss.

“Pakistan has long suffered from the scourge of terrorism. Today’s terrorist attack is aimed not only at the Pakistani nation but also our friendly ties with the United States,” he added.

Prime Minister Aziz said the despicable act only strengthened Pakistan’s resolve to fight terrorism and “underscores the need for us all to work together”.—APP
