LAHORE, March 2: Director General (Nursing) Shahnaz Victor tendered unconditional apology before the Punjab Environment Protection Tribunal on Thursday for exonerating two Ganga Ram Hospital nurses from charges of involvement in the sale of hospital waste on the basis of an ex parte inquiry.

Appearing before the tribunal, comprising Syed Zamir Hussain Shah and Mansoor Akbar Kaukab, here on Thursday in connection with the hearing of the Eco Watch Trust complaint regarding inadequate hospital waste disposal arrangements, Ms Victor submitted that a fresh inquiry would be held into the matter.

The tribunal was informed that the Ganga Ram Hospital’s Additional Medical Superinten-dent Dr Nadeem Afzal Ashrafi, who complained about the reinstatement of nurses without inquiry on the recommendation of Nursing Staff Principal Malika Shaheen Akhtar, had been made an OSD, and the hospital would be represented by Dr Ahmed Raza instead. The tribunal expressed displeasure over the development, and ordered hospital inspection by a committee next week to submit a report on observation of standard operating procedures for waste disposal.
