GAS CYLINDERS

GAS CYLINDERS: The use of gas cylinders has been on the rise owing to disruptions in the supply of natural gas. There is no standardised quality control mechanism involved in the manufacturing of these cylinders. Having such substandard gas cylinders is like having live bombs in one’s house or workplace, which is extremely dangerous. The local manufacturers should be encouraged to set up their plants with a guarantee that they will produce only quality cylinders that meet international standards.

LOW SALARIES: The Punjab government a while ago hired monitoring and evaluation assistants (MEAs) in the Education Department against a paltry monthly salary of Rs22,500 which is actually well below the legal requirement of minimum wages. In the present economic scenario where it is hard to manage household expenses, it is critically important to increase the salary of MEAs. The provincial government should pay attention to the matter.

GAS THEFT: Incidents of theft of natural gas have increased in the vicinity of Hub city. Unfortunately, those who pay their bills regularly end up facing the consequences of such theft as they have to deal with gas shortage on a daily basis. The public, having paid substantial amounts, is aggrieved by inadequate gas supply. The situation surely needs immediate attention of the authorities concerned.

TRUTHS AND LIES: This is with reference to the letter ‘Choosing the right leader is our duty’ (Jan 20), which stated, among other things, that Pakistanis had the chance to elect the right leader for the betterment of the country. I do agree that elections can be a chance to undo our past choices, but there is a lingering question in my mind about how to know who is the right leader. Can anyone help?
