Mossad chief David Barnea has presented a nine-point plan to Israel’s War Cabinet for the potential release of 136 hostages in Gaza, TRT World reports, citing the Times of Israel.

The proposed deal outlines a phased release process aimed at ensuring the safety of all hostages.

In the initial phase, 35 hostages would be released in exchange for a 35-day truce, equating to one day of truce per hostage. This phase prioritises the release of vulnerable individuals, including women, the sick, injured, and elderly hostages, according to the report.

Following the initial truce, discussions may extend for an extra week to address the second stage of releases. This phase could include members of civilian defence squads and male hostages identified by Hamas. Negotiations during this stage are deemed crucial for the overall success of the hostage release plan.

The number of Palestinian prisoners to be released from Israeli jails is yet to be decided. Israel is open to releasing a significant number of low-level offenders while retaining more serious offenders in custody.

In contrast, Hamas insists on the release of what they consider “quality” prisoners, adding complexity to the negotiations, as reported by Channel 12.
