PESHAWAR, Feb 28: Condemning the visit of US President George W. Bush to Pakistan, the Peshawar High Court Bar Association on Tuesday called upon the people of Pakistan to observe the day of his visit as a black day and a day of protest and mourning.

A general body meeting of the association, chaired by its president Iqbal Khan Mohmand, unanimously adopted a resolution through which the meeting dubbed George Bush a person with no regard for human life and dignity.

The meeting called upon US president to cancel his visit because he was not welcome here as he was invited by a person in his unconstitutional capacity and not by the people of Pakistan.

The meeting was convened on a requisition filed by Barrister Bacchaa. It was addressed by Qaiser Rasheed, Mian Fazal Wahab, Ghulam Nabi, Shahabuddin Burq, Mussaratullah Khan, Mian Younus Shah and Kareem Mehsud.

An exchange of hot words took place between Mian Fazal Wahab and Ghulam Nabi when the former was supporting Bush’s visit. The latter termed all those persons who support the visit “shameless”. However, other members intervened and ended the dispute.

The resolution stated that as protectors of the rights of the oppressed, the defenders of the rule of law and opponents of every form of cruel and inhuman treatment to fellow human beings they opposed the upcoming visit to Pakistan by George W. Bush because declaration of “crusade”, a holy war, after September 11, 2001 against the Muslim World was reminiscent of a barbaric age; his unprovoked invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq was without justification and bloody massacre of thousands of innocent Afghans, peace-loving Pakistanis in North Waziristan and Bajaur and Iraqis were manifestation of his nature.

They stated that US president’s visit was unwelcome, particularly at a time when with his blessings and encouragement newspapers and periodicals in the West had recently aroused the wrath of the followers of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by holding to ridicule the greatest lawgiver the world has known.

The resolution states: “We call upon the government of Pakistan to forthwith withdraw the invitation to US President George W. Bush and at the same time we call upon the US president to cancel his upcoming visit to Pakistan because he is not welcome here for the reason that invitation to him is an invitation by a local quisling, extended by an individual in his personal unconstitutional capacity and which was issued against the wishes and in disregard of the sentiments of 140 million Pakistanis.”
