DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The district administration on Monday called upon all political parties to observe the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the upcoming general elections scheduled to be held on Feb 8.

In a statement, the administration asked parties not to hold public meetings, processions and rallies without its permission as declared by the SOPs to ensure a “secure and conducive environment” for transparent elections.

It warned it would act against violators of the restriction under the relevant laws. Meanwhile, the Lower South Waziristan administration has imposed Section 144 in the district prohibiting rallies until Feb 11.

The move will ensure a secure and peaceful environment for the Feb 8 general elections, according to a notification issued by deputy commissioner Nasir Khan.

It said Section 144 was imposed to protect public life and property and ensure a conducive environment for elections.
