It is estimated that about 73,000 housing units across Gaza Strip have been “destroyed or rendered uninhabitable and over 290,000 housing units have been damaged” due to Israeli strikes as of January 22, UN’s humanitarian agency OCHA has said in a report.

According to Shelter Cluster — a source previously cited by the UN’s aid agency UNRWA — 290,000 housing units amount to “around 80 per cent of the housing units’ stock” in the enclave.

“Shelter partners report tents and self-built makeshift shelters are over-crowded as more than 15 people live in one tent, making the space available per person less than the minimum Sphere standards,” Shelter Cluster stated.
