ISLAMABAD Feb 28: The government is expected to react on Wednesday to the opposition’s threat of launching a final struggle, against the set-up headed by President Pervez Musharraf, sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

The opposition had announced after a round-table conference of on Monday to launch a decisive struggle to end military’ dominance in the country and formed an eight-member steering committee for coordinating the struggle.

The sources said that the formation commanders’ conference had discussed in detail the possible repercussions and a suitable reaction to the opposition’s call and the National Security Council meeting on Wednesday would be followed by a meeting of the cabinet.

The major item on the NSC agenda, besides the upcoming visit of United States President George Bush, would be the opposition’s call.

The president, the sources said, would take the cabinet members into confidence on the measures that the government would propose to meet the opposition’s challenge.

A member of the cabinet said the country’s leadership was in contact and the matter had been discussed at the highest level.

The president would also discuss with the cabinet Mr Bush’s visit and exchange views on a number of issues, the sources said.
