COX’S BAZAR: Bangladesh defeated their Pakistan counterparts by 36 runs in the third match of the Women’s U-19 Tri-Nation T20 series here at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

This was Pakistan’s first defeat in the event after their first match against Sri Lanka on Thursday was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Anosha Nasir landed an early blow as she caught and bowled Eva Khatun (six).

Wicket-keeper/batter Sumaiya Suborna (24 off 33 balls) and Arbin Tani (31 off 30) stitched a 42-run partnership for the second wicket before Pakistan captain Mahnoor Aftab dismissed the former.

Tani fell to Maham Anees shortly after. Captain Sumaiya Akhtar produced a quick-fire 32 from 24. Anosha removed Akhtar in the last over as the hosts totalled 136-4 in the stipulated 20 overs. Rabeya Khan also contributed an unbeaten run-a-ball 23.

For Pakistan, Anosha picked up two wickets while Maham and Mahnoor had one each.

In reply, Pakistan could only manage to score 100 for seven in 20 overs. Eyman Fatima hit 39 from 43 until she was removed by Rabeya.

Samiya Afsar scored a 30-ball 25 while Komal Khan added 14 off 12.

Afia Asima Era returned with two wickets while Faria Akhtar and Khan dismissed a batter each. Rabeya Khan was adjudged player-of-the-match.

The Pakistan side in their next match of the tri-series face Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
