Pakistan includes Zubair

LAHORE, Feb 27: Mohammad Zubair got a place in the 16-member Pakistan hockey team announced for the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Melbourne, Australia, from March 12 to 26.

Zubair, who represented Pakistan in the six-match series against India this month and got the nod of the selectors, is the younger brother of former Olympian Mohammad Sarwar.

Four players, who had been included in the 20-member team for the series against India but were axed are: strikers Waqas Sharif, Shabbir Khan, Mudassar Khan and Sajjad Anwar.

Meanwhile, the camp to prepare the team for the event will be held at the Sports Complex in Islamabad from Wednesday.

Team: Salman Akbar, Nasir Ahmed (goalkeepers), Mohammad Saqlain (captain) Zeeshan Ashraf, Adnan Maqsood, Imran Warsi, Tariq Aziz, Adnan Zakir, Rehan Butt, Dilawar Hussain, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Zubair, Shakeel Abbasi, Mudassar Ali Khan, Imran Khan Yousafzai, Muhammad Shabbir.
