DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A cop was martyred and two labourers were killed in a militant attack on Abaa Shaheed police check post in Dera Ismail Khan district on Tuesday.

According to a police spokesman, unknown militants attacked the checkpost in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The cops manning the checkpost observed the militants’ incursion using thermal cameras and repulsed the attack. However, the militants again launched an attack, resulting in a fierce encounter. The gunbattle continued for a while, after which the attackers fled the scene.

When a search operation was launched in the morning, the dead bodies of a policeman and two labourers, Ashiq, son of Sona and Qamar Zaman, son of Sulaiman, were recovered.Two other labourers, who were injured in the attack, were immediately shifted to hospital by Rescue 1122 officials.
