NAWABSHAH, Feb 27: A patient died in the People’s Medical College Hospital due to alleged negligence of duty doctors on Monday. Lakha Dino Mahar, 40, was admitted to medical unit-3 on Saturday.

Patient’s sons, Ayaz and Pathan told reporters that they repeatedly told the staff to call ward in-charge Dr Rafiq Memon who refused to attend the emergency call. They said that Dr Muqeem Agro was also requested to attend the patient as his condition was getting worse but no response was received and their father expired early on Monday morning.

Sources in the PMC hospital told Dawn that ambulance with emergency call was sent to residence of Dr Rafiq Memon, in-charge medical unit-3, in doctor’s colony but no one came out.

It was informed that Dr Muqeem Agro was looking after the ward on Sunday who was not a government employee and had nothing to do with the ward. People’s Medical College principal Prof Ali Akbar Ghumro confirmed that Dr Muqeem was not an employee and was working in ward without permission.

He said that he had warned Dr Rafiq to attend the ward regularly and had also issued directives to remove Dr Muqeem from ward. He said that an inquiry was being conducted into the matter to ascertain the causes of death.

The family of deceased has demanded of health department to provide them justice as their father died due to alleged negligence of duty doctors. PMC hospital MS Dr Mehfooz Qureshi told Dawn that he had assured the deceased’s family that justice would be done and an inquiry would be conducted.
