SARGODHA, Feb 27: At least four coaches of 261-up shuttle train running between Bhera and Malikwal derailed near Rajewala this noon allegedly due to defective track. Railway authorities claimed that no loss of life or injuries were reported in the wake of the derailment. However, they said that about 200-yard patch of the track was damaged.

An official, requesting anonymity, said that the track on the branch line was slightly damaged due to the recent rain and could not sustain the train’s weight.

He said that as the train was moving very slow, about 10 km an hour, there was no life loss reported.

The railway officials have initiated an inquiry into the incident and are initially looking into the role of inspector (works).

ATTACK: A group of farmers allegedly attacked the police party deputed to monitor some criminals’ activities.

Reports said the policemen, including Muhammad Younus and Muhammad Ramzan, were monitoring the movement of some suspects in the area of Mari Luk when some farmers including one Sikandar thrashed and injured them.

The both policemen have been admitted to the DHQ hospital where they are said to be stable.
