PESHAWAR: An independent candidate contesting the Feb 8 polls for a provincial assembly seat escaped an ‘assassination’ attempt in Gulbahar area here on Saturday.
In a video message shared with media, Malik Tariq Awan, independent candidate for PK-82, claimed that he was campaigning in his constituency when he came under attack.
“I came under attack at two different places. I am safe, but two of my workers are injured,” Mr Awan claimed, adding: ‘I ask my supporters to stay calm, and hope the administration takes action and arrests those behind the attack.’
Gulbahar police said two persons were injured in the attack and were shifted to a hospital. However, they added the case was being investigated.
