An ailing hospital in Sialkot

Published February 26, 2006

SIALKOT, Feb 25: The Government Allama Iqbal Memorial (DHQ) Hospital is one of many health facilities in the district, which lacks even the most basic facilities.

Giving an ailing look, the institution has been suffering on account of missing facilities and human resources. Unavailabilty of doctors and paramedical staff and facilities is affecting its performance, belying the government’s claims of expending millions of rupees on health facilities. And the situation is not something new; patients have long been complaining about it.

Some people may not believe that cattle, especially cows, go to grass at the hospital. Isn’t it height of neglect?

Ironically, the previous district government had announced that besides equipping the hospital with the latest technoloy and human resources, special attention would be paid to its beautification. District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema said the incumbent setup had planned to upgrade the hospital under a phased programme by allocating Rs20 million.
